This is a very elegant country style kitchen that was previously lacking in zest. The designer and I decided that gloss Dutch enamel might just be what it needed. The cabinets were originally white, so after a good sanding, and brushing on a couple coats, the kitchen looked amazing! This is a beautiful Master Bath in Santa Luz. We distressed the cabinets, then stained and then glazed them. The additional steps beyond staining brought these custom alder wood cabinets into the realm of fine furniture. These cabinets were first distressed, then stained and antiqued. It's a pretty straightforward process that produces a furniture quality finish. The island in this kitchen was the only new non-existing piece of cabinetry. It seemed logical given the look of the house that it be something special. I suggested orange to the designer. He though it a great idea, so orange it was. It added a fun yet sophisticated twist to the kitchen. The office niche cabinets in this shot are distressed, stained, fly specked, and glazed cherry wood. They work very well with the light ochre colored waxed lime wash walls and crackled wax milk paint finish on the door jambs. This kitchen was a redo of the existing kitchen. The contractor reconfigured the room and cabinets. The cabinets were golden honey colored oak. The owner liked the French country look. I worked with the designer to develop a soft yellow, antique finish. Basically it's a yellow base coat with a creamy taupe over glaze. The island here was also done in House of Kolor paint. The color is persimmon red. It creates a very nice accent to the neutral tones of the cabinets and walls. This job was my first time spraying metallic and candy hot rod paint. It was challenging but worth it as the kitchen turned out distinctive and elegant.
